Post by KingHarry »

Welcome to OctOWBer's breeding challenge! This year, there will be three rounds! We're doing a challenge instead of a competition this year, so it's going to be very casual with no voting.

Remember that entering any of the rounds counts as one challenge completed for claiming OctOWber stamps! You only need to enter one round to complete the challenge.

Rounds
  • 1st-7th Oct; Magic Mayhem
  • 8th-14th Oct; Cozy Sweater Weather
  • 15th-20th; Halloween Night
Interpretation of the theme is up to you! If you think it fits, then it fits 😊

Rules
  • Please follow the theme for the round!
  • Only one entry per person per round
  • At least one OW must be used. There is no maximum number of OWs
  • Any OWs can be used for any breed
  • No brexing please!
  • Please list the OWs you used in your entry
Once you've entered, why not link your entry in the OctOWber discord channel to make sure everyone sees it? 💖

I was going for something magical but all I really seemed to get was mayhem.

I bred a litter of 5th gen Non-inbred Full Pedigree Maine Coon/Calicos using Cargo's Smoke & Tabby Maine Coon OW and Reloaded Houla Calico OW. I'm going to put them up on the Petz Bazaar later today.

I kept one kitty from this litter, Strike.

Here is my entry for week one, Magic Mayhem! I thought white (sparkles, wisps, whatever) make me think magic - mayhem made me think black so I went looking for an OW that worked and settled on the Sleepycat Halfie Chinchi and Buck's Black Tabby.
I started breeding and discovered I had Queenie's Print Kitty in my game too, almost took it out but realized it worked well for the theme - the underbelly is the bunnygrey texture which is kind of a sparkly white, and the stripes use the plaid texture - and since the paintballs are so small they seem to switch between black and red - magical you might say!

So here is the litter - Normal cat on one side, magical mayhem on the other with magical stripes!

Here's my entry for Magic Mayhem - Party Honkers!

I used the Honker hexing base which OWs the Maine Coon and Funfetti's Pastel Stripe OW. I thought that the magical pastel colors along with the mayhem from the honking and weird body parts from the honkers would be a fun combination. It's not anything I would normally breed - I usually tend to go with more traditional OWs so this was a bit out of my comfort zone, but I'm glad I did it. I got some fun combinations! 3 out of the 5 of them make honk noises - the mini white one has an oshie personality and the angry black one clearly has an alley personality. Yes, the persian makes honks. <3

Since the honker was originally intended as a hexing base, I did have to tweak the group number on the eyeballs in the breedfile since sometimes the kittens' eyeballs would be the same color as the coat (as seen on the alley honker). I left the black eyeballs on the alley honker since it seemed to suit him, but wanted the rest of the offspring to have normal eyes. :)

I went for mayhem, put a bunch of spotty and colourful dog OWs in a wheel, and bred some stuff!

The wheel gave me

1. Reloaded's OW Spot Dali
2. PDH Surprise Labrador
3. PDH Surprise Dane

and eventually came to these wackos!

When I read "Magic Mayhem," the magic part made me think of whimsy and something sweet. And mayhem triggered an impulse to try a new NIB line with several files.

I remembered loving the ears on Loxie's GSD and finding them to be very whimsical/magical and the Funfetti pastel spot dali file is just a perfect whimsy vibe. I knew I hadn't bred any mutts lately, so I decided to use Buck's mutt file.

They don't breed quite true yet, but I think I would be able to get there in another generation!

I initially only thought to breed for white & black coats, but I got some tan pups and grey pups and they're very cute.

Clearly, I had to use slightly unhinged photos to further hit the mayhem theme.

And my keeper is just such a doll. He's perfection!

So, "Sweater Weather" made me think of the Cargo Show Coat Poodle OW. And then I wanted to use a file I haven't had a chance to use yet, so I downloaded the Hextraordinary Greyhound. Then it was a just a matter of finding which of my labs have poodle coats.

I'm obsessed with how these turned out! Such fun variety. Which I feel like makes a lot of sense because here, in Wisconsin, the weather has been changing a lot - so I've needed different styles of sweaters. Shush, that's not a stretch. It make perfect sense.

I also had the Hextraordinary St Bernard (OW for the sheepie) and the Hextraordinary Pitbull (OW for the scottie) in as well.

I've bred some fun-size Sheepies! the perfect size to hand out to trick or treaters halloween night?
I used the bigger eyed sheepie to get this size eyes when they're medium-mini :)

overwrites used:
- ballamee big eyed sheepie
- michy rottie for these ears (swapped to a scottie just because I had scottie ear genes)
- my alternate spot dali
