this is my live judging thread for my conformation shows - that is both Airship (catz) and Olfaction (dogz)!
i am making comments after some breed rings (generally all breed rings for catz), but the following judging comments highlight what pose features i look for in each species!

with dogz, there are more variations between poses, which does make it easier for me to judge as i won't be faced with as many perfectly posed entries like with catz! leg alignment is the most important and is the first thing i check for, but i am a stickler for head alignment - i like the dog to be facing as straight-on as possible in dane pose. height of the head is less important to me - i like both extreme high heads and extreme low heads and anything in between, different files do look better in different head heights and i'll probably comment on the breed rings if i think a file looks particularly nice in a certain head height. for dali poses, i do enjoy heart noses if they are possible in the file, and in general i don't think ~showy~ files look as nice in dali as they do in dane. i don't like 3/4 poses. i'm always looking out for ball rolls, mainly in the toes in dogz - they usually aren't as prone to facial ball rolls as catz are! i always look for the highest breathing point too, apart from in PFM files/some other petzy files in dali pose where they lose their heart nose at the highest frame. i might not comment on every breed ring for dogz as often as these general comments will apply - certain things that stand out to me, and big breed rings, i will still comment on!
GROUP G1: Folklore Pretty Girl G2: Cargo's Party Like It's 1999
Comments: REALLY tough group ring - every cat was posed perfectly and were great examples of their standard. could not get the cornish rex off my mind - the coat texture is really clear, and the pose is super clean and the overall look is very sleek. the siamese also has a beautifully clean pose, the point pattern is clear and the eyes are super striking

Comments: already off to a strong start! lots of nice catz. for the SN files i'm looking for no ball rolls - common ones are the toes, ear insides and chin - and for the petzy files i'm looking for a neat front leg alignment as well as a nice curve to the tail
Cornish Rex (14) BOB: Folklore Pretty Girl BOS: Folklore Driven from Your Fears AOM: SECHE HorrorStory
Comments: wow three wildly different files being shown in this ring! looking for catz with a really clear, curly/wiry fur texture. lots of lovely female catz
Oriental Longhair (10) BOB: Raposa Pull Me Back to Shore BOS: Glitterfeet's Bastion Booger AOM: Glitterfeet's The Fabulous Moolah
Comments: all SN v2, so looking out for the usual ball rolls. also looking for over 25% white in the catz that show white spotting. BOB is very gorgeous - love the white spotting on the ears and how the choices of nose and ear inside colour matches the surrounding coat so well
Comments: there's two distinct alignment with the SN v2 oriental files (i've noticed) - i prefer the one with the fuller front leg and the rounder bottom of the foot, as the other alignment gives me the illusion of the back of the front leg being concave? and the face looks more central to me - this is just my opinion though! anyway. same as usual for SN V2 files, and when it comes to petzy/PFM files of the oriental breeds, i always prefer angry eyelids. 25% white in white spotted cats again is a feature i am looking for
Comments: this is not a file i have ever posed or even hexed, but once again i'm noticing two different alignment choices; neither 'wrong', but i prefer the one where the back of the front leg is straight and the far front leg isn't peeking out the back. really love how the smoke is done on the BOB cat - there's a clear contrast between the different fur textures on the cat
Seychellois (14) BOB: Raposa Like the Sun BOS: Cargo's Only the Good Stuff AOM: Cargo's At Least a C+
Missing gender alert: Aftermath Break the Spell, Taremu The Dusk Falls DQ: Taremu The Dusk Falls - no texture on the feet/toes/muzzle
Comments: looking out for the usuals (mentioned above) with the SN V2s! only one cat in my preferred alignment for that file in this ring. must have the 25% white this time.
Siamese (14) BOB: Cargo's Party Like It's 1999 BOS: Cargo's Raspberry Beret AOM: Raposa Vital Force
Comments: same again with the SN V2 file, i'm trying not to sound like a broken record! really like the PFM file offerings here - some lovely angry-eyed poses - BOB in particular has such a clean-looking muzzle.

Comments: another hard group ring to just pick two catz from. i love how striking and clear the sepia agouti pattern is on the singapura - it's really beautifully done. the savannah is extremely striking, i love the clear light markings
Comments: all gorgeous catz that meet the standard and all of it's finnicky markings perfectly. i realised yesterday when posing that this file is prone to a ball roll on one of the ear linings, so i'm looking for poses without that roll!
Chausie (8) BOB: Folklore One Day at a Time BOS: Folklore Out of My Mind on Sunday
Comments: definitely prefer the black ear insides over flesh in the solid black & black grizzle catz here. also like how when the tabby barring is below the knee, the body pattern looks more 'blended' with the barring
Japanese Bobtail (8) BOB: Arrow's Blockhead Grande BOS: Glitterfeet's Lone Survivor
Comments: wow there is some lovely PFM jbobs in this ring, their chin balls like to roll though! both BOB and BOS have lovely poses for their respective files
Comments: okay all white cats. seems to be two distinct alignments which lead to different eye positions - i prefer the one where the eyes are further apart, it looks more even to me, and the nose shape is nicer. looking for saturated colours for the eyes - the green of the BOB cat was ultimately my favourite
Lykoi (7) BOB: Cryptid In the Shadows BOS: Cryptid Caught on Camera
Comments: black roan and mixed levels of hairlessness preferred - i really like the rich colours of the BOB cat.
Nebelung (11) BOB: Mirror Blue's Say It Again BOS: Mirror Blue's Glass Dance AOM: Epica Hide From the Light
Comments: more monotone cats. vivid green eyes are preferred, however there's a few misaligned catz and catz with ball rolls on the chin here. pose is definitely very important to me in breeds where the catz/dogz only come in one or two colours
Russian Blue (11) BOB: Mockingbird's Lighthouse By The Sea BOS: Taremu Blue Sapphire AOM: Mirror Blue's Espirt de Corps
Comments: MORE monotone cats! all PFM, so i'm looking for a perfect tail curve, as clean as possible front legs, and vivid green eyes again
Comments: rosetted leopard is sadly a fault which is a shame. i really like when light markings are present on the face, as well as the minimum areas of the throat. i prefer the alignment with the flat-bottomed front feet - it looks the cleanest to me
Singapura (5) BOB: Glitterfeet's Snakes and Ladders BOS: Glitterfeet's Pony Club Ball
Comments: heavy preference for catz that are hexed to follow the sepia agouti pattern in the breed standard, rather than those that use the blurry-looking textures - the markings are just so much clearer. BOB cat is absolutely lovely!
Sokoke (2) HM: Mirror Blue's Out in Droves
Comments: underrated file & breed. prefer the cream light markings alongside the tabby with a tan base, over the tabby with the grey base
Somali (3) HM: Fauvelle's Majesty Snowbird
Comments: close competition between the two blue catz, HM went to the one without the ear inside ball roll!
Thai (4) HM: TWM's Up In The Exosphere
Comments: adorable file and catz. 3 different leg alignments - i prefer the one of the HM placed cat the best - it looks nice and sturdy. HM cat has lovely bright blue eyes
Comments: really like that tabby colour combo for black golden tabby. i really like the solid white cat and would place it BOB but both him and the current BOB cat are males!

Comments: two very stunning and striking catz - both from breeds and files that i'm very familiar with so tend to be more picky about! the burmese grex is just stunning, and the don sphynx has really carefully chosen colours when it comes to the wrinkles and nose/ear insides

Comments: lots of very pretty catz in this ring. i like my alley cats angry with legs as clean as possible, i prefer the slight peek through of the far front front at the back of the close front leg, rather than any peek through at the front

Comments: all girls! couple of alignments, i prefer the one that hasn't got a flat front foot (the face is less even in that alignment i think). solid cat is my favourite - i'm not the biggest fan of those tortie textures as they look very 'regular' for a tortie cat

Comments: both of these files are super cute, BOB has lovely bright green eyes
Burmilla (2) HM: Fire's Heart Of A Champion
Comments: other cat in the ring is not aligned well, though the HM cat is a lovely display of the burmese shaded pattern
Devon Rex (7) BOB: Mirror Blue's That Glow BOS: Starling Screaming Colour
Comments: wow, lots of files being shown! looking for a clearly wiry coat here

Comments: god i love hairless catz. this file has a toe ball roll and an ear inside ball roll to look out for. there's two common alignments and both look nice to me - one causes the eyes to be further apart which makes the face more even to me, but the other doesn't have any of the back leg poking through, so the pros and cons are even to me. i do like the wrinkles to be of a 'matching' and coordinating colour to the rest of the coat, and not be too dark compared to the colour of the coat/skin underneath
Egyptian Mau (1) PICK: Sierpiński's Imperfections Persist at Cymophane
Comments: omg how is there only one mau being shown... they are cute! this cat is very nice
European Burmese (10) BOB: Folklore Damaged Goods BOS: Blizzard Golden Ceiling AOM: Folklore Misbegotten
Comments: wow this is a strong ring. i really like a subtle but still noticeable visible point pattern in burmese patterned catz - i think it portrays nicely how the point pattern is often not super clear irl, unlike colourpoints and minks. one cat has a radiohead show name!
German Rex (18) BOB: Macavity's Smoked Oyster BOS: Remirys Southern Belle AOM: Folklore Last Orders
Comments: my favourite breed!! an extremely strong ring too, wow. BOB goes to the gorgeous fawn burmese, he fits my preferred look for burmese catz to the T. really, really wish i could give out more placements, the quality is super super strong in this ring

Comments: more all grey/blue catz! some misaligned poses which helps narrow down my decision. really like the contrast of the darker ear insides on the BOB cat.

Comments: gosh i always forget this breed exists. lilac cat gets HM - it sadly has a chin ball roll but is the only cat in the correct alignment
Minskin (5) BOB: Macabre's Twice Shy BOS: Macabre's Once Bitten
Comments: this breed deserves more love!! all catz are nice examples of the hairless pattern
Munchkin (11) BOB: Cargo's Jewel of Fëanor BOS: Cargo's Lamented Love AOM: Macabre's That's Not Guacamole
Comments: some very nicely presented catz here. really love the silver tabby BOB - the light markings and dorsal stripe are done beautifully. highly prefer even eyelids - it looks like a couple of files have SCPs that don't mean that they're always even
Ojos Azules (2) HM: Nightwish Fast Love
Comments: shame there isn't more of these, the SN v1 file is very very cute. both nice cats - the black tortie has the perfect alignment though!
DQ: Glitterfeet's Queens Nose - tail is white; this is not allowed in non-solid white catz unless stated in the individual breed standards
Comments: more bald catz that i love. the lilac bicolour is particularly pretty, the paintball pattern is very nice. sadly one DQ for a white tail that slipped through regs, oops!
Tonkinese (1) PICK: Nightwish Long Spring
Comments: poor lonely cat. faulted for having the wrong eyecolour (aqua eyes on a colourpoint). pose is lovely though!

Comments: a breed i used to show a lot of! love the red tabby and her etched nose. only a couple of male catz in this ring! lots of lovely poses though

Comments: the SN v1 file is so so cute. all catz and poses look lovely here, the silver tabby is just stunning though

Comments: lots of variations in alignments here and a couple of ball rolls to look out for (ear insides and chin). BOB goes to the only cat in the right alignment and without any ball rolls :c correct alignment is always preferred over ball rolls for me

Comments: i prefer striking, bright eyes for bombay catz! sadly the catz with the brightest eyes have pose issues (one unaligned, one with a fuzzy petted chest)

Comments: prefer the alignment on the HM cat!
Chinese Li Hua (3) HM: Folklore Little Dragon
Comments: two slightly different alignments and honestly... both look good. bit of far front leg at the front of one, and a bit of far front leg at the back of the other, so the playing field is quite even. i like the light markings on the eyebrows in this breed, and the overall richness of the colour in the HM cat!
Ocicat (5) BOB: Mirror Blue's Unfortunate Events BOS: Mirror Blue's Light and Day
Comments: only two catz in the correct alignment, i prefer how this shade of pink nose looks against the dusty base over how it looks against the grey base
Orange Shorthair (5) BOB: Cargo's You Rock BOS: Cargo's I Frew Up
Comments: every cat in this ring is posed very nicely and looks gorgeous! both BOB and BOS have lovely tabby patterns with really nice dorsal stripes, light markings and etched noses - i love the green eyes of the silver tabby a little bit more though!

Comments: lots of variation in files and coat lengths! BOB tortie is very stunning with the bright green eyes, both place catz have the nicest alignment for that file in my opinion!

Comments: this file seems to have a funny lil toe ball roll on the front foot... placement goes to the cat without the roll

Comments: prefer the look of the barring wrapping around the tail in this cat. not a big fan of the very light flesh ear insides on the black ears, but i believe this is just how the file comes out the AC sadly

Comments: G1 goes to the really pretty shaded BSH - it is just such a lovely representation of the pattern, in a perfect pose. G2 goes to the B&W Shorthair - i think it's a really lovely example of the classic B&W Shorthair colours and pattern

Comments: more people should show this breed, there's a file for everyone whether you prefer showy or petzy! alignment is correct on the HM cat, but sadly the face is wonky - probably the wrong breathing point?

Comments: wow these are more popular than i thought. there's two alignments that both look nice here, but i prefer the one where the eyes are more 'central' on the head - one alignment gives the eyes/head a slightly lopsided look. call be boring but i always love a rich black tuxedo cat, and the white chest flows really, really nicely on the BOB cat. my top three were all male, if only i had another placement to give

Comments: gosh another tough ring. the shaded cat BOB is really gorgeous though, the pattern is clear yet blended really well. some differing alignments with the sunhill file, but i like the alignment of the BOS cat the best, as well as it's soft expression.

Comments: ooh, interesting that the large majority of catz are in the classic PFM calico pattern! the BOB cat overall is posed beautifully evenly - both BOB and BOS catz have very close-to-even eyelids, which I look for in calicoes.
Chinchilla Persian (6) BOB: Cargo's Seafoam Pudding BOS: Cargo's In the Frozen Earth
Comments: i'm so used to seeing mini ones of these that i forget that this is what the PFM file actually looks like lmao. i really like the soft eyelids and the centered eyes of the BOB cat, the other cat the same was also a female so I couldn't give her BOS! picked the male with the cleaniest looking muzzle (imo)
Manx PICK: Mirror Blue's Waltzing Matilda
Comments: unfortunate ball rolls on the ear insides - i'm also not sure about the alignment here but looking at the file pics on the breed page i think this is possibly the most even it can do?

Comments: lots of lovely catz here - BOB is a gorgeous silver tabby with a really nice curve to the tail, and is also my preferred alignment for the PFM file. really handsome chocolate tabby point in BOS, and a very pretty shaded cat in AOM - these patterns just really stood out to me here

Comments: really lovely looking mingled tabby in BOB! the selkirk ring does need some more love - the petzy paranoia file is absolutely adorable.

Comments: the G1 smoke maine coon is simply gorgeous - i think the smoke pattern is displayed really well on this cat, and it makes me want PFM maine coons to show of my own! the G2 pixiebob i think is a really lovely representation of the breed, with rich colours, eyebrow light markings and piercing eyes
American Bobtail (5) BOB: Blizzard Faithful One BOS: withheld
DQ: Blizzard Head up in the clouds - unrealistic two-tone whiskers
Comments: well this is a file i'm familiar with given i hexed it! perfect pose on the BOB cat, a lovely heavy tabby. BOS withheld due to one female entry being DQ, and the other being misaligned
Honey Bear (6) BOB: Taremu Fireworks N Dynamite BOS: Taremu Pass the Potatoes
Comments: wow big chunky catz. lots of nice entries here - the chocolate torbie really caught my eye!
Comments: BOB goes to a really lovely tortie - i do prefer it in torties when the red area is striped, it's more realistic to me!
Maine Coon (19) BOB: Cargo's Dungeons Deep BOS: Cargo's More Fierce Than Fire AOM: Aftermath Legends Never Die
Comments: oooh, a lot of nice catz here - nice strong competition in this ring. i really like all of the smokes in this ring - makes sense as i see a lot of smoke maine coons irl (well, on the internet lol), and the AOM blue tabby has a really nice, clear ticked tabby pattern. the PFM entries in this ring are really strong - i wish i had more placements to give (again!)
Norwegian Forest Cat (7) BOB: Blizzard FOOL IN THE RAIN BOS: Belleteyn Black Velvet
Comments: seems to be a couple of workable alignments with the SN file - i prefer the one that the BOB cat has. i prefer cat eye outlines to be black, but for dog eye outlines to match their pigment... i'm not sure how that came to be really
Comments: these cats are Big and Nasty so i really like them having the tabby light markings above their eyes to maximise that frown. BOB cat has a really rich brown base colour and bright eyes which makes it really stand out. i like the alignment where the front foot is flat the most!
Ragdoll (1) PICK: Loveshack Chi-Chi
Comments: sadly a slightly misaligned pose on this one lonely kitty
Comments: one of my favourite breeds! the paranoia file is also my favourite hehe. lovely red smoke in BOB - gorgeous even face, and this file does move about a lot in poses lmao. both BOB and BOS have my preferred alignment for this file!
Turkish Van (4) HM: Starling Head To The Light
Comments: HM has my favourite pose of the bunch - sadly this file seems to have a wonky nose in the correct alignment? which is what it is but it is a shame
Comments: i'm really pleased with this winner's circle - every cat was perfectly posed and just overall gorgeous. the top three catz were particularly hard to choose between as i felt that they are all brilliant representations of their patterns. goes without saying that any cat that got to this stage had an absolutely perfect pose!

Comments: oooh a lot of gorgeous dogz in the group. G1 is the chessie, who i think has such a stunning dane pose for a petzy file, and the coat texture is really pronounced like i'd expect on a chessie. G2 to the gordon setter - this pose really stood out to me in an incredibly tough ring, and the dog looks very smart and proud with the level muzzle. G3 is to the labrador, which has a stunning pose and really draws attention to the thick and sturdy neck of the breed. G4 goes to the spinone, which i think has a gorgeous pose for this file, and the head and ear shape are really clean - overall a very balanced looking dog

Comments: tricky white around the eye limits in this breed. roaning/ticking = white, even if it doesn't look like it, as they are patterns that only affect white. something to look out for!

Comments: oh that abno file is SO SWEET, it looks lovely in both dane and dali (and all of the poses of file in the ring are gorgeous). tough decision!

Comments: the quality of these group rings really is strong. G1 goes to the ibizan hound - i cannot get over how gorgeous both this pose and dog is, it looks so majestic and the dog is so rich in colour. G2 goes to the bavarian mountain hound, i think this dog looks so proud in the high-headed pose. G3 goes to the mini dachie, this is such a gorgeous pose for the PFM file, and the merling is really even. finally, G4 goes to the karelian bear dog! this pose looks very proud and alert, and the dark head is super pretty

Comments: only one dog in the right alignment (hence BOS being withheld), and sadly this dog has slightly mismatching pigment on the eyerim, which is faulted. a fault can still place for me with a perfect pose (like the BOB dog has); pose = physical structure of the dog in my eyes, and so takes importance over colouration

Comments: wow lots of sausage. really love the pose of the BOB dog - nice soft eyelids and not too much of the far eye showing (though being able to see the far eye is expected for PFM dachies). nice 50/50 split of the merling as well. the general quality of the poses in the PFM dogs is really high, and better than the general quality of poses seen in the SN/filigree dogz.

Comments: the best breed in the world imo. some lovely poses here! in the perfect alignment, the far legs of this file shift slightly between the two highest breathing point frames - i judge both frames as equal, as the technical 'higher' of the two is the one that makes the far front leg poke through out the back of the near front leg, so the technical 'lower' of the two looks a bit cleaner. pros and cons are equal again.
